Our Methodology

NootropicGuide uses a 5-pillar scoring framework applied consistently to every product. No brand pays for a review or influences our scores.

5-Pillar Scoring Framework

01

Ingredient quality (20%)

We assess whether each ingredient has peer-reviewed human clinical trial evidence for cognitive benefits. Proprietary blends with hidden doses are penalised.

02

Dosing vs. clinical evidence (20%)

For each active ingredient, we compare the product dose to the minimum effective dose from published clinical trials (sourced from PubMed). Underdosed ingredients are flagged.

03

Formula transparency (20%)

Full disclosure of all ingredient doses scores highest. "Matrix" blends or ingredients without standardisation data reduce scores.

04

Value for money (20%)

Price per serving (in EUR) divided by the number of clinical-dose ingredients.

05

Brand trust (20%)

Composite of Trustpilot score (50%), BBB/Trustpilot EU complaint volume, subscription cancellation transparency, and third-party testing documentation.

EU Compliance Checks

For EU-specific reviews, we additionally verify that each product's ingredients and health claims comply with:

  • Directive 2002/46/EC — food supplement ingredient safety
  • Regulation (EC) 1924/2006 — only EFSA-authorised health claims
  • Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 — Novel Food authorisation status

Products that ship from EU warehouses and price in EUR are rated more highly in the Value for Money pillar, since EU buyers avoid import duties and VAT surprises.
